London 2012 The Olympic and Paralympic Games.

London has been host to the games twice. In 1908, London stood in as hosts for Rome following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, and again in 1948 stepping in to host the games after the second world war.

The London 2012 Olympic Games will feature 26 sports, the Paralympics 20.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Olympic Park - Olympic stadium on Friday 27th July.

The closing ceremony is the same location, the date is 12th August 2012.

The Olympic Games run from 27th July - 12th August 2012.

The Olympic flame will arrive in the UK on the 18th May 2012. Eight thousand  Torch-bearers will carry the flame on a seventy day journey across all regions, with shows and concerts marking its arrival in each location.

The build up to the Paralympic games will be marked by a UK wide Paralympic torch relay and will also feature various celebrations and events.

The Paralympic Games run from 29th August to 9th September 2012.

Excellent transport links will assist all visitors staying in London to get to the 2012 venues.

The Javelin service will make the journey from King's Cross/St Pancras to the Olympic Park in just seven minuets.

Most hotels are concentrated in the West End making it easy to explore everything the Capital has to offer. Great Restaurants, Theatres and shops are within easy walking distance of most hotels. All little further outside the West End you will find Bed and Breakfast, apartments and rooms for rent for the duration of the games. It may be possible to find a hostel or campus for diy accommodation.

If you are all little more adventurous it may be more cost effective to stay just outside the main area and travel in, that way you can see more of the English countryside or visit the many places of interest, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Runnymede to name just a few that are just 30/40 miles outside central London.
